It can be daunting going to a church service for the first time or after having been away for a long while. We try to make our Sunday services as welcoming and understandable to the newcomer as we can. We hope the summary below helps explain a little of what you can expect to happen at our Sunday services:
Where and when do we meet?
On Sundays we meet in two locations:
In Highcliffe we meet at 10am at the Highcliffe Day Centre, 250 Lymington Road, BH23 5ET.
Why not join us for a coffee before the service, from 9:30am.
In Christchurch we meet at 11am at The Regent Centre, 51 High Street, BH23 1AS.
There are regular bus services into the High Street.
What does a Sunday service look like?
Each service is kicked off by a time of singing songs of worship led by a band on the stage, and then the speaker for that week will teach from the Bible (usually the same speaker and message at both sites). Here at GodFirst we tend to work through a series of messages that follow a book in the Bible or a particular theme. Visit our resources page to listen to past messages.
In response to the message that has been brought from the Bible (usually around 30-40 minutes) it is quite common for us to stand together and have another short time of singing songs to God and responding to all that we have heard.
Also during the service, members of the church will have an opportunity to give money into a general offering for the church (though many will do this through standing orders or by other online means), but as a newcomer, please do not feel obliged to do this – this is for people who call GodFirst their home church.
After each service, there will be tea and coffee served where there is plenty of opportunity to chat to people. There will be people dotted around with Get Connected t-shirts on if you’re new and would like to chat to someone. This team can also help you with any further questions that might have.
Activities for Children
At our services we host a full range of activities for children and young people. Read more information about the different age groups here.
Can someone show me around?
Do you want to come to church but don’t want to come by yourself? Or would you just like someone to show you around? Then we can provide someone to help.
We are very keen that everybody who comes through the doors at GodFirst gets welcomed and looked after so we offer the opportunity to arrange in advance for someone to meet you when you arrive and look after you during your Sunday with us. If you would like to find out more about this please complete the simple online form by clicking here and someone will get back to you shortly.
