Launch Day – March 4th 2012: Special Report

So what changed?

GodFirst is the new name for The Family Church that has been in Christchurch for over 20 years.  We are a lively church gathering over 200 people of all age groups and walks of life but with one BIG thing in common: we love Jesus.

So why have we changed to GodFirst?  Simple – Jesus said that the most important thing is to love God with everything and put Him first in your life.  So we want to be a people that do just that.

What happened on the day?

As we regularly meet in the Regent Centre theatre, we chose to host two cinema films as part of our celebration. The day started with the all age family film ‘Despicable me’  followed by a family friendly, informal and fun celebration service that included a time of commitment and dedication. The foyer of the Regent Centre was decked out with balloons and banners and throughout the day there was a team of people on hand to chat to and provide more information about the church – with free coffee on tap.

Following the celebration service everyone was invited to join us for a wedding style cake reception with speeches from young and old and a song specially written by some of our young people declaring “God be first in our lives”.  To close the day we gathered again for another film ‘The Blind Side’.

All in all a fantastic day to remember, marking  the moment in a special way, having lots of fun together, meeting new people and simply saying what it means to put GodFirst.
